Kobe Bryant Discusses the Rape Case, Shaq and Retirement

Kobe Bryant opens up about the rape case, Shaq and retirement in a new interview with In Depth.

The NBA all-star spilled about everything under the sun when he sat down with Graham Bensinger for an interview that’s set to get people all geared up for the upcoming Olympics. Bensinger wasn’t shy with the questions and the interview was a telling on indeed.

In 2003 Kobe was making headlines for any reason but basketball when he was accused of raping a young woman in Eagle, CO. He got off the hook legally with that one, but not with the wife. People suspect Bryant dropped some $4 million on jewelry to make things right with the misses.

Kobe had this to say in the interview about the whole ordeal:

“I think it challenges who you are as a person. To have to go through something like that not only individually but as a family. For the Lakers organization, my teammates. It was extremely difficult and you kinda had to do some soul searching, because you’re fighting numerous battles at the same time. You just kind of try to figure your way through all of this mess. And the only thing that you can do is put one foot in front of the other, and just continue to move forward.”

When that was going on, people thought it would ultimately affect the game, Kobe begged to differ, “I’m not going to stop playing. I’m not, just because you guys think I should stop playing, just because you guys think that I won’t perform as well. I’m going to show you.”

Kobe also discussed why continuing as teammates with Shaquille O’neal just “wouldn’t work”:

“There’s things that I wanted to do with my career and take my career to another level, that I was just incapable of doing as long as we were playing together. “

But Kobe admits that he wasn’t so confident about the split when the Lakers took on their rivals The Boston Celtics in 2008. He admitted to doubting himself and the team:

“I was like, ‘Man, I’m never going to win another championship. Maybe everybody was right. I can’t win without Shaq. This is my one opportunity, and I blew it.”

It’s crazy to think Kobe has been playing for as long as he has. He’s still fresh faced, so the idea of anyone even mentioning the word “retire” seems odd, but it did come up.

“I’ve been playing for 17 years now, so next year will be my 17th and then, when I’m 35, it will be my 18th year in the league. I mean that’s a long time to be playing. It will be the last year in my contract, so I don’t know. I don’t know if I’ll play any longer than that.”

Whether Kobe plays ten more years or hangs it up soon, at least he’ll be remembered for all those championships, never passing the ball, and that scandal…Wait is that last part not good? Either way, he’s definitely leaving behind a legacy, and will never be forgotten.

Chad Ochocinco Dropped from Patriots

June 8, 2012 | sunnymenagerie

Source: sports.yahoo.com

Chad Ochocinco was once a former reality TV star, and he can now add former football player to his resume. Ochocinco was dropped this week from the New England Patriots after they spent time trying to trade him. Don’t get it twisted though, his career isn’t over. He’s just taking on the label “free agent” for now. Let’s hope he doesn’t think he has to change his last name to that though.

Ochocinco took to Twitter to thank the Patriots for their time.

“Thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to play for the ‘Patriot’ organization … fans were f****** wicked awesome, I wish all of you the best.”

The 34 year old player spent 10 years with the Cincinnati Bengals until 2011 when he was traded to the Patriots. Now it’s up in the air where he’ll spend next season. Wonder how this rambunctious, over the top personality wasn’t instantly picked up during the trades? It’s not like his stats are dismal.

If Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson has his way, Ochocinco will be on his team, according to the tweet he sent out regarding the news:

“OG @Ochocinco tell ya agent to set that up with The #BillsMafia. Ya Field Swag was Contained a Whole Season. Come TurnUp wit us in BuffCity.”

It wasn’t Johnson or even Ochocinco’s tweets that caused the most chatter…it was was his fiancé and fellow Vh1 star, Evelyn Lozada.

“Aww baby you got cut @ochocinco I got your back! I’m the bread winner now, which means I make the rules!”

So either Ochocinco finds a new team, or he’s taking the domestic role in the family.
