President Obama and First Lady Michelle visited The View to talk about things like their first date and of course politics.

It’s not uncommon for a political figure to make talk show appearances. It’s a chance to get promotion for their campaign and to showcase their actual personality, if they have one, which Obama sure does. He’s proven before that he’s quick with wit and can make an audience chuckle, and the ladies of The View would definitely agree with that.

Obama was in a sea of estrogen as he sat amidst his wife Michelle, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Barbara Walters, Sherri Shepherd and the lone Republican Elisabeth Hasselbeck. He joked, ”I told folks I’m just supposed to be eye candy here for you guys.” 

They discussed topics like the couple’s first kiss. It involved Baskin Robbins in Chicago and a daring Obama asking Michelle if he could kiss her. Of course she said yes.

Then Walters asked Michelle to describe Obama’s personality. She did by saying, “He’s very loving. He’s very giving. He’s very open,” the first lady gushed. “He’s funny. I’m funnier. But we understand that!”

Obama did say that he’s not always as nice as the first lady described him, and admitted to raising his voice when Michelle is being “thoroughly unreasonable”.  He said, “You try to keep an even keel during the day, but there are times, after the day is done, when it comes out.”

The trip to The View wouldn’t be complete without the politics though.  Obama was asked how America would do with Mitt Romney if he won and he went on to say a lot, but the line that stuck out will be the one played over and over again, “We can survive a lot, but the American people don’t want to just survive, we want to thrive.”
