Chris Brown’s Probation Still Under Review, Rihanna Tweets Her Support
Chris Brown was back in court today, for the first time in over a year, but if he had hoped his legal ordeal was coming to an end, he has to be disappointed.
Brown was sentenced to five years of supervised probation following his guilty plea to felony assault in the case of his beatdown on former girlfriend Rihanna back in 2009. Since then, the singer seems to have kept his nose clean, getting positive reports from his probation officers.
However, there’s a snag this time around. Brown tested positive for marijuana in his home state of Virginia. While he has a prescription for the drug in California, where medical marijuana is legal, that doesn’t get him off the hook in VA, where it isn’t.
In today’s court date, Judge Patricia Schnegg let Brown off easy, stating that she had not made mandatory drug testing part of his probation. She did issue a stern warning, telling the singer: “You are not an average person who can sit in their living room and do what you want to do. You are not only in the public eye, but you are on probation.
“You should be mindful of obeying all rules of the courts. A lot of people look up to you — a lot of kids. What you do and what you say impacts other people.”
Judge Schnegg did have a problem with the records of Brown’s community service in VA and ordered him to meet with his probation officer within 72 hours to straighten out the discrepancies. She also wants a review of his travel and ordered the case moved back to California.
So Chris Brown is a free man, at least for now, but he still needs to watch his step where the law is concerned. As for the victim of this case, superstar singer Rihanna continuously reminds the public that she’s over everything. Before Brown headed to court, she sent him this message via Twitter:
Brown responded, “thank u so much.”
She also tweeted: “Praying for you baby, my best wishes are with you today! Remember that whatever God does in our lives, it is WELL DONE!!!
