Mary J. Blige made her iHeart Radio performance top notch with Prince.
Yes, Blige could’ve performed her whole set without any help, as she’s proven over the years to be an incredible ball of energy on stage, but why not share the spotlight? So four songs into her set and after singing a good amount of her Chaka Khan cover “Sweet Thing,” Blige brought out her secret weapon Prince, saying, “I got a real good friend in the building. He’s one of the most amazing artists to ever walk the earth.”
All 12,000 people went crazy as the legendary singer walked onstage.
The once symbol singer said nothing as he stepped onstage with a new afro and in huge, gold glasses, a flame-print shirt and yellow bell bottoms that matched his guitar, and just finished up “Sweet Thing” on guitar. They then went into “Nothing Compares 2 U.” When they were done, Blige said, “Thank you Prince,” then bowed to him while offering a hug and kiss combo.
iHeart Radio was a two night event held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and Mary J. Blige was just one of the many artists that second night who performed over the five hour period. And while Billie Joe’s tantrum might’ve made a sour note in the press, it was Prince and Blige’s duet that left the event’s attendees blown away.
