James Cameron reveals his plans for not only Avatar 2 and 3, but a prequel as well.
Avatar still holds the world record as the highest-grossing film of all time with $2.7 billion made around the globe, but will people still care in a few years when the sequel comes out? James Cameron better hope so since he’s spending so much time, energy, and money on the next three films in the Avatar series.
Cameron discussed what has been going on behind the scenes, “We have spent two years refining the whole pipeline. It was a hideously complex process to make that film and a lot has been said about that, but we don’t want it to be done in the same prototypical way as the first one, we want it to be a much smoother workflow just for creativity reasons.”
Also, with the idea of a prequel after three movies…Cameron noted how he’s not obviously trying to emulate one of the most well-loved and respected film franchises in history, “We’ll start, not imitating Star Wars, but it’s a logical thing to do because we’ll have completed the thematic arc by the end of three. The only thing left to do is go back to see what it was like on those first expeditions and create some new character that then become legacy characters in later films. It’s a plan.”
We’ll see if Avatar 2 can repeat the success of the first when it is released in 2015.
