Tired of hearing how supermodels were back on the runway or modeling bikinis mere weeks after giving birth? Jessica Simpson tells a much more relatable story of struggling to take off the pounds she gained while carrying her adorable baby daughter Maxwell Drew.

The latest celebrity spokesperson for Weight Watchers said candidly, “I didn’t realize it (the weight) didn’t all come off with the baby.” That’s why she failed to watch her diet during pregnancy. “I let myself indulge in everything I wanted because it was the first time I was ever pregnant, and I wanted to enjoy it. I wanted to be happy and eat what I wanted.”

Of course, Simpson came to regret that after the baby was born and she was still saddled with the excess weight. She won’t reveal her actual post-baby weight, but will say she was at 170 pounds when she posed nude and pregnant for Vogue.

Since starting the Weight Watchers program, the new mom has been making steady progress, revealing, “I’ve lost weight every single week” by “eating less of everything.” But she does allow herself the occasional treat, saying, “I don’t believe in completely depriving yourself.”

In addition to dieting, Simpson is walking and working out with a trainer. She’s trying to set realistic goals for herself. “I’m not a supermodel. My body is not bouncing back like a supermodel. I’m just your everyday woman who is trying to feel good and be healthy for her daughter, her fiancé and herself.”

Hang in there Jess—you’re lookin’ good!
