Rodney King’s death has been ruled accidental and yes, drugs were involved.
King, who is best known as the face of the LA Riots, passed away earlier this year in June after drowning in a backyard pool in Rialto, CA. Fingers were pointing at his fiancé Cynthia Kelly. Good news though, the police found no foul play and Kelly is off the hook.
With a history of drug abuse, it came as only a surprise to King’s brother, Zhan Paul King, who said his brother had “been doing very well and was happy,” and “was no longer abusing hardcore street drugs or using Phencyclidine (PCP).” Although PCP, among other drugs were found in King’s system including; alcohol, cocaine and marijuana.
The coroner summary noted, “The effects of the drugs and alcohol, combined with the subject’s heart condition, probably precipitated a cardiac arrhythmia and the subject, thus incapacitated, was unable to save himself and drowned. There is nothing in the history or autopsy examination to suggest suicide or homicide, and the manner of death is therefore judged to be accident.”
One person not surprised at the report was King’s neighbor, Bob Carlberg, “Unfortunately, I’m not surprised. I knew he smoked, and I’m not surprised there were other drugs. … It’s real sad, but I’m glad it was (ruled to be accidental).”
