The Office to End After Ninth Season

The Office will come to an end after its upcoming ninth season, that’s what she said.

A show that already existed overseas, The Office might not have been the first show in America to ditch the laugh track, audience ,and adopt the single-shot setup, but it was and continued to be one of the most successful in its comedic genre. However, their reign will soon come to an end as NBC announced Tuesday that the show will say goodbye after nine seasons.

The original showrunner (seasons 1-5) Greg Daniels is taking back the creative part for the last season and going back to the feel the show had pre-Sabre merger, saying, “This year feels like the last chance to really go out together and make an artistic ending for the show that pays off a lot of the stuff that matters most to fans,” adding, “The end should be pretty cool.”

Ending the show now is bittersweet since there are still fans who love it, but a good number who don’t…according to the ratings. Last season seen a drop in ratings and it probably has everything to do with star Steve Carell leaving. Will the “World’s Best Boss” be back to “close up shop”?

Daniels hopes so, “We have ideas for the ending, and obviously if he would participate, we would have a lot of good times. The idea will fly without him if he can’t make it. He is pretty busy.”

NBC also has to bid farewell now because they weren’t sure The Office would get a proper ending if they went to season 10. Mindy Kaling already has a new show hoping to make a splash with FOX’s New Girl on Tuesday nights this Fall, and Rainn Wilson is said to have a spinoff in the works called The Farm following his eccentric Dwight Shrute character. Then there is power (TV) couple Jim and Pam. John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer are getting too expensive for the network to handle.

To sum it up, Daniels assures, “All questions will be answered this year. We’ll see who’s behind the documentary, and we’ll meet some of them.”

Tune in to The Office’s last run when it premieres on NBC, Thursday, September 20th at 9pm.
