While driving when you’ve had too much to drink is never a good idea, a lot of us have done it, especially when we were young and lacked better judgment. But what’s with all these middle-aged, semi-famous dudes getting popped lately?

Earlier this week, we heard the horribly embarrassing story of 53-year-old country singer Randy Travis, who was found drunk and naked lying in the middle of a Texas highway after crashing his car. Yesterday, 60-something year old pop star Rick Springfield struck a plea deal over his May 2011 DUI arrest in Malibu. Now another guy who’s certainly old enough to know better is in trouble.

Joe Simpson, father of Jessica and Ashlee, is the latest fool to get arrested for driving while intoxicated. According to TMZ, the 54-year-old former minister was busted on August 4 while driving on Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks. Papa Joe spent the night in the slammer before being released the next morning.

No criminal charges have been filed yet, but you know how these things always play out when they involve anyone remotely rich or famous. Daddy Simpson will hire a hotshot attorney who’ll get him a plea bargain and he’ll pay a fine.

On the bright side, it looks like at least Papa Joe didn’t threaten the cops—and he had clothes on when they nabbed him. However, maybe new mom Jessica will think twice before letting grandpa drive with the baby in the car.
