The late Amy Winehouse and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil were a classic “Days of Wine and Roses” couple, constantly feeding each other’s addictions during their short marriage. Now, just over a year after the pop star’s tragic death, her ex lies in a coma and his prognosis does not look good.
According to UK paper The Sun, Fielder-Civil was rushed to a hospital after being discovered choking in bed by his partner Sarah Aspin, the mother of his 15-month-old son. He is on life support and has suffered multiple organ failure. No definite cause for the overdose has been named, but Fielder-Civil reportedly drank alcohol along with other substances.
The relationship between Winehouse and Fielder-Civil was a tumultuous one, with him spending much of their two-year marriage behind bars for assaulting a pub manager. Many of those close to Winehouse disapproved of the relationship, feeling that Fielder-Civil encouraged the singer’s substance problems. The pair divorced in 2009, and Winehouse died last year.
One of those who disapproved of the romance was Winehouse’s dad Mitch, who nonetheless urged her fans to offer prayers for Fielder-Civil. He tweeted, “Terrible news about Blake this morning. Remember Amy loved him. Let’s pray for his recovery.”
Given how the 30-year-old has abused his body, the outcome isn’t promising.
