The Modern Family cast has settled their contract disputes (thank God).
When you’re a part of a rating darling and award dominating cast, you’re bound to feel you’re worth more, and that was the case with Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet and Sofia Vergara, who wanted to go from $65K an episode to nearly $200K.
This week everything was smoothed over and the adults of the cast (minus Ed O’Neil) settled on around $175K an episode, a cut of the show’s profits, and added on a year to their contracts. This makes them signed on for eight seasons instead of the initial seven.
Co-creator Steve Levitan told The Hollywood Reporter it was “unfortunate that things got to a public place.” Agreed, it sucks when the future of a popular show is uncertain based on money issues. With a cast that big with even bigger salaries, one can only hope their popularity doesn’t suffer in the ratings and during award show season. It would be terrible to expect so much because you’re number one and then slip.
But for anyone concerned about the behind the scenes drama, Levitan says don’t worry, “We’re going to be fine. I promise you,” he said. “I’m not even sugar-coating it. It was all hugs and laughs at the table read (on Thursday). It’s just that too many people were involved. The stakes are too big. It (was) almost inevitable. It will blow over. Everybody will be happy and tight again on Monday morning.”
To celebrate the settlement, Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara stepped out to take in some culture in Northridge, CA on Friday attending the Joffrey Ballet School’s introduction of ‘Joffrey West. She was all smiles, and with that new cash flow, who wouldn’t be?
