Jermaine Jackson has been in the news quite a bit lately, as he squabbles with other members of his family over control of his late brother Michael’s children—and the millions that go with them. What do we really know about this former Jackson Five member?

-Jermaine LaJuane Jackson was born in 1954, the fourth of the nine children born to Joseph and Katherine Jackson.

-Jermaine was the original lead singer of the Jackson Five, before losing that job to his younger brother Michael in 1968, the same year the group was signed to Motown Records.

-At 19, Jermaine wed Hazel Joy Gordy, the daughter of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy. This proved to be awkward when a couple years later, the Jacksons decided to leave Motown for Epic Records. Jermaine split from the group and remained on Motown. It wasn’t until many years later that he finally rejoined his brothers.

-While Jermaine was still married to Hazel Gordy, he began a relationship with Margaret Maldonado. She soon became pregnant with his child, which was rather bad timing, since Hazel was also carrying a child by Jermaine. The pair divorced in 1988, after having three children.

-Jermaine fathered two boys with Maldonado before the two split, and she has gone on to start a successful agency handling stylists as well as producing the 1992 TV mini-series “The Jacksons: An American Dream.” Maldonado also penned a scathing tell-all book about the family entitled “Jackson Family Values.”

-Jermaine’s next relationship was with Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza, who already had two children with his younger brother Randy. This pairing produced three more offspring, including the unfortunately named Jermajesty.

-Until recently, Alejandra and her five children by two Jackson brothers were living with Jermaine’s mother Katherine and Michael’s three kids at the family compound north of Los Angeles.

-Jermaine is currently married to Halima Rashid and has converted to Islam.
