The Dark Knight Rises Shooting Leaves 12 Dead
The shootings at a Colorado theater during a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises has left many shocked.
A midnight screening of an anticipated movie is only supposed to leave moviegoers with feelings of happiness and excitement, not sadness and fear. The massacre left 12 confirmed dead and 38 injured.
The gunman has been detained and identified as 24 year old James Holmes who lived only four miles from the theater where everything went down. Reports are saying he stood in the front of the theater in all black, a riot helmet and bulletproof vest “threw some type of gas or explosive device and started shooting.” Patrons started doing anything to save their lives.
His attire is raising the idea of banning costumes at events like midnight screenings where it’s popular to come as characters from the film.
Many celebrities reached out via Twitter to send their condolences, including Ryan Seacrest and Olivia Munn.
@RyanSeacrest: “Thinking about the families who were affected by this horrible incident in Colorado. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.”
@Oliviamunn: “My sincerest condolences to the victims and families in Colorado. So sad, so mindless.”
Even President Obama released an official statement this morning, “Michelle and I are shocked and saddened by the horrific and tragic shooting in Colorado … We are committed to bringing whoever was responsible to justice, ensuring the safety of our people, and caring for those who have been wounded. As we do when confronted by moments of darkness and challenge, we must now come together as one American family.”
The Dark Knight Rises will earn a lot this weekend, but it definitely got the worst PR a movie can ask for on opening weekend. Our hearts go out to those who were affected by this tragedy.
