Arnold Schwarzenegger – Who Knew?!
Arnold Schwarzenegger officially retired from politics more than a year ago, but the action star is not spending his days relaxing on the golf course! Schwarzenegger and pal Sylvester Stallone will be back on the big screen August 17th in “The Expendables 2,” and that’s not all this big guy has planned.
-Born in Austria, Schwarzenegger began weight training at 15 and won his first Mr. Universe title at 20. He went on to win the Mr. Olympia title seven times.
-In 1968, at age 21, the body builder moved to the U.S., and began working on losing his thick Austrian accent. After beginning to take English classes at Santa Monica College, Schwarzenegger received his BA.
-When Schwarzenegger made his film debut in the 1970 film “Hercules in New York,” his accent was so thick that it had to be dubbed by another actor.
-Schwarzenegger’s breakthrough role was in the 1976 film “Stay Hungry” winning him the Golden Globe for Male Star of the Year.
-Schwarzenegger auditioned for the role of Dr. David Banner’s angry alter ego in the TV series “The Incredible Hulk,” but lost to the taller Lou Ferrigno.
-The 1982 film “Conan the Barbarian” launched Schwarzenegger’s career as a box-office giant. Other hit films on his resume include “The Terminator,” “Red Sonya,” “Twins” and “Total Recall.”
-In 2003, Schwarzenegger was elected Governor of California, becoming the first foreign-born Governor of the state in over 100 years. He won reelection in 2006, then left office in January 2011.
-Schwarzenegger met Maria Shriver at a tennis tournament in 1977, the couple wed almost 10 years later, and went on to have four children.
-Shriver and Schwarzenegger separated in 2011. By then, the news was out that the actor-turned-politician had fathered a child by the family housekeeper.
-After the release of “The Expendables 2,” Schwarzenegger will be appearing in two more films, a film about border violence called “The Last Stand,” coming out in January, and “The Tomb,” coming in fall of 2013.
-Schwarzenegger will turn 65 on July 30.
