Jennifer Lopez may not return for the new season of “American Idol”, according to the rumors…but even if her time on the show is over, you can bet she’ll stay busy! “Idol” is just a small chapter in this enduring star’s multi-faceted career. Here are a few facts about the life and loves of “Jenny from the block.”
-Lopez was born and raised in the Bronx, and showed an early talent for singing and dancing. Her first big break was being chosen as a “Fly Girl” on the TV show, “In Living Color.”
-After making her acting debut in the 1995 film “Money Train,” Lopez got her breakthrough role in “Selena,” the 1997 biofilm about the Latin music icon, which brought Lopez critical acclaim as well as a Golden Globe nomination and ALMA award.
-Her first album, “On the 6,” was released in 1999. The title refers to the train Lopez took from the Bronx to Manhattan for auditions.
-Lopez wed Cuban waiter Ojani Noa in February 1997, but the pair split soon after and were divorced in January 1998. Over the next few years, Noa threatened to release intimate videos of the actress made during their marriage and to write a tell-all book.
-After her short-lived marriage to Noa, Lopez began a well-publicized relationship with Sean “Diddy” Combs that ended after the couple was detained by the police following a nightclub brawl.
-In September, 2001, Lopez wed her second husband, back-up dancer Cris Judd.
-Just a few months later, Lopez became involved with actor Ben Affleck during the filming of the movie “Gigli.” The pair, dubbed “Bennifer” by the media, planned a lavish wedding, but cancelled the event at the last minute. “Bennifer” officially broke up in January 2004.
-Lopez quickly rebounded with singer Marc Anthony, who became husband #3 in June 2004. The pair had twins Max and Emme in 2008, but separated three years later.
-Lopez joined “American Idol” for its tenth season in 2010.
-Earlier this year, Lopez was named the most powerful celebrity in the world by Forbes magazine.
