Luke Bryan has taken it back to high school test days….
It’s a big honor to be asked to sing the National Anthem at a major sporting event, but doing so isn’t as easy as just belting out your latest hit song. While some legendary performers like Whitney Houston made it look effortless, other singers need a little help, which is why Luke Bryan took out a bit of insurance against forgetting the words.
When the country hunk sang the National Anthem last night at the All-Star game in Kansas City, he got caught looking at the lyrics and checking his watch. After his performance, Bryan was slammed by fans who thought he should have shown more respect for the Anthem and memorized the lyrics ahead of time.
Today, Bryan took to his Twitter to apologize to those offended and explain what happened.
“I had a few keys words written down to insure (sic) myself that I wouldn’t mess up. I just wanted to do my best. I promise it was from the heart. If I offended anyone with my approach I sincerely apologize.”
“Anytime I sing the anthem it is an honor and my heart beats out of my chest. I did check my watch because I knew the stealth bomber would fly over 2 minutes in and I knew I started a little late. Being a part of the all star game was amazing and I look forward to the next time I can perform the anthem.”
We think Luke sounded fine and the fans ought to cut him a little slack!
