Star Jones Says Anderson Cooper Only Came Out for Ratings

Star Jones’ comments on the Today Show about why Anderson Cooper came out has the internet buzzing.

Cooper made headlines this week when news broke that he was finally out of the closet. For those not in the know of what that means, he’s gay. There’d been speculations for years, but everyone respected his privacy and just let it go. But now it’s officially out, and everyone is talking about it.

No one was surprised, but Jones’ still had a lot to say when she appeared on Tuesday’s Today show. The host Natalie Morales asked the panel of  ”Today’s Professionals” if they felt celebs needed “to make their sexual preferences known.” Jones’ was quick to voice her opinion, even throwing Oprah in the mix.

“He’s a daytime talk show host and when the ratings slip in daytime, the hosts tend to tell you lots of things about them. I remember Oprah said she smoked crack. Oprah said she was pregnant at 14 and considered suicide. There were times that you generate information for ratings.”

Jones quickly bit her tongue and said, “Whoa, I’m sorry I said that,” Jones said. “But I say bravo! Bravo for him!”

Seeing as how Anderson’s talk show is off for the summer, if this whole outing was for ratings, he probably would’ve waited until September to make it official. So with that, we have to assume Anderson just felt it was time to stand proud and public.
