R. Kelly’s marriage to back-up dancer Andrea Kelly withstood 12 years of fights, three children, and his trial for child pornography, but what finally killed it was—a movie? The star claims the 2004 film, “The Notebook”, that everyone loved convinced him to end the relationship, but his ex calls him a liar.
Marriages hit the rocks for a variety of reasons, but…a cheesy movie? That’s what R. Kelly is claiming inspired him to call it quits with the mom of his three kids. In his new memoir “Soulacoaster,” Kelly relates how his own romance could never measure up to the one in the film. Here’s how he tells it:
“As the film credits started to roll, I couldn’t move. I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. ‘The Notebook’ was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together.”
“But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine’s Day — when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses — that had come and gone … My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.”
Aww! What a sweet story! Too bad ex-wife Andrea calls BS on it. The star of the new VH-1 series “Hollywood Exes” told TMZ, “[The movie] came out in 2004 and we saw it together. Our divorce wasn’t finalized until 2009 so it’s impossible that the movie could have been the reason for our relationship ending.”
“We had been separated for six years at that point! The movie definitely did not end our relationship!”
Oh, well. It would have been really cute if it had just been true!
