Faith Evans leads the pack on new TV One reality show, R&B Divas.
Evans will be joined by Nicci Gilbert, Monifah Carter, Syleena Johnson and Keke Wyatt as they are followed by cameras for 8 episodes that showcase them alone, together, and other various match ups. The show, primarily set in Atlanta, focuses on these strong women in music, but will also be made for a great cause, Whitney Houston.
The group will collaborate on a charity album in honor of Houston. All money raised from the album will be donated to the institution Houston attended that is now called the Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts.
TV One executive VP of original programming and production, Toni Judkins, described the realness of the show:
“These ladies have known each other in the industry for quite a while. We aren’t creating relationships for the sake of a television show, so their actions, relationships and emotions are authentic and true to life-and it makes for a powerful narrative.”
One of the Divas, Nicci Gilbert, shared her thoughts on the show:
“R&B Divas was created to help instigate balance. We are mothers, wives (and) positive women first,” Gilbert said via Twitter. R&B Divas will prove beyond a reasonable doubt that we can captivate an audience without hurting them.”
R&B Divas premieres on TV One August 20th.
