Courtney Love Sued by Her Former Lawyers
Courtney Love might have to pay up…
When you sue people or get sued as often as Courtney Love does, you need good legal help. Unfortunately, those legal eagles expect to be paid for their services, which is why the ‘Hole’ singer is being sued by her former lawyers for nonpayment.
Keith A. Fink and Associates represented Love in 14 legal matters over a few months back in 2009, and has just filed suit in L.A. County Superior Court claiming she owes them over $400,000 for services rendered.
According to a report by TMZ, Love sent Fink & Co. things like gifts, flowers, concert tickets and thank-you notes—but her checks bounced. The firm claims that Love promised to pay them out of money she expected from the estate of her late husband Kurt Cobain, but the cash never came. Fink wants $466,029.41 in back payments and late fees as well as punitive damages.
Love’s new lawyer du jour Steve Honig played down the matter, telling TMZ “Courtney has not been served with anything, so as far as we’re concerned there is no lawsuit. Additionally, Keith has not been her attorney for many years, so it’s a bit odd that this would surface now.”
Since this is Courtney Love we’re talking about, it’s no surprise that this isn’t her only legal problem at the moment. For the second time, Love is being sued over defamatory comments she made on Twitter. A few years back, the singer settled a suit against her by a fashion designer out of court. The designer charged that Love’s derogatory statements had damaged her reputation.
Love has since been sued by another of her former attorneys after Tweeting, “I was f—ing devastated (sic) when Rhonda J Holmes Esq of San Diego was bought off.” The firm of Gordon & Holmes has sued for defamation and served Love’s estranged daughter Frances Bean Cobain with a deposition subpoena because she posted that “Twitter should ban my mother.”
It’s hard to argue with her on that.
