Katy Perry Dishes on Split from Russell Brand: “Sometimes You Don’t Need the Prince Charming”

So far, pop star Katy Perry has refrained from discussing her short-lived marriage to comic actor Russell Brand—but now she has a movie to promote. Perry’s documentary “Katy Perry: Part of Me” hits theaters July 5, so she’s all over the media, talking about their failed relationship.

On Thursday night, Perry appeared on “The Tonight Show” and told Jay Leno about filming the doc at the same time her marriage was falling apart.

“You don’t have to lay down and die even if you feel like you’re going to,” the singer stated, adding, “I think that people will relate to the movie even more seeing me at my lowest point and now at my highest point.”

The movie gives an inside look at Perry trying to balance her career with her marriage, using what little time she had away from touring to rush home to Brand. Eventually, the separations took their toll on the relationship. Perry indicates that her former hubby didn’t deal well with her success.

“I thought to myself, ‘When I find that person that’s going to be my life partner, I won’t ever have to choose [between the partner and my career] … they won’t be threatened or have weird motives.’ Then I started to realize, that’s not true. That fairytale I had is not true for me right now.”

Perry seems to be recovering nicely from the disappointment of her failed marriage, and looks gorgeous in her fashion spread for The Hollywood Reporter. The singer told E! News:

“This is the modern-day fairy tale where sometimes you don’t need the Prince Charming at the end to have a happy ending.”

I thought she would be hurt behind the split, but, maybe it was more than we will ever know

Just curious; who in the world feels they don’t need their Prince Charming, give me a break! The majority of us are always, looking, hoping, or waiting for our Prince Charming
