John Travolta, Meryl Streep, and More Honor Shirley MacLaine
Shirley MacLaine was honored Thursday night in Culver City at Sony Pictures Studios for her lifetime of achievement in acting. Maclaine was the 40th person to receive this type of award from the American Film Institute, and several A-list celebs came out to support the legend.
Meryl Streep, Dakota Fanning, Morgan Freeman, Julia Roberts, Jack Nicholson, and Jennifer Aniston were among the many superstars that attended the ceremony.
Sir Howard Stringer, the chair of AFI’s Board of Trustees, said in MacLaine’s honor:
“Shirley MacLaine is a powerhouse of personality that has illuminated screens large and small across six decades. From ingénue to screen legend, Shirley has entertained a global audience through song, dance, laughter and tears, and her career as writer, director and producer is even further evidence of her passion for the art form and her seemingly boundless talents. There is only one Shirley MacLaine, and it is AFI’s honor to present her with its 40th Life Achievement Award.”
MacLaine was nominated for the Academy Award a total of five times, winning once for Best Actress in the film Terms of Endearment. MacLaine has starred in multiple movies, and has acted among the best of the best. She’s spent almost 60 years in film, and is well-deserving of such an amazing ward.
