Lauryn Hill has been accused of evading taxes for THREE whole years. In 2005, 2006, and 2007, Lauryn made $1.6 million, but she didn’t share any of that with Uncle Sam! Hill went to court Thursday to face the judge. If charged, she could owe $300,000 in fines….and could even be sentenced to a year in prison. Knowing Lauryn’s rebellious character, she probably didn’t pay because of her own personal vendetta’s against the government. 

Hill had actually disappeared from the music scene for quite some time, and just started back performing again. Hill’s most recent show was this past Sunday at the Summer Jam in New York when she hit the stage with rapper Nas. Hill even had something to say about the Nicki Minaj vs. Rosenberg drama….surprisingly jumping to Nicki’s defense:

I don’t have details on exactly what transpired between the station and the artists, but I do support artists standing by their beliefs and walking with integrity. We have to find a better way to commercially exploit music while giving artists their proper respect. This cannot be done while taking their contributions for granted or trying to control the scope of their growth and power through threats and fear tactics.

Lauryn is always in support of artists, because she knows firsthand what type of pressure they’re under. If only Hill could use her wisdom more when it comes to finances…
