Donna Summer, legendary disco queen, has passed away at age 63. 

TMZ first released the news, noting Summer had died in Florida on Thursday after a long battle with cancer. According to TMZ insiders, she was recently working on music for a new album.

Donna’s family has since released this statement:

Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time.

This year has been absolutely insane! Legends are dying left and right…at fairly young ages too…tragic!  Donna Summer was extremely beautiful and talented! She was indeed a ‘bad’ girl! May she Rest In Peace.

Here are five interesting facts about Summer:

-While living in Germany in the late 60s, she became a regular in the Munich production of musical “Hair.”.

-Donna was the first solo artist in history to have three consecutive #1 double-albums on the Billboard charts. The only other musical act to accomplish this feat were The Beatles.

-Donna charted 30 #1 hits (singles and albums) on the Billboard Pop/R&B,Disco/Dance, Album charts combined, over a period of 33 years.

-In 1979, she was nominated for 5 American Music Awards – winning three. In 1980, was nominated for 4 American Music Awards – winning three.

-Donna has won 5 Grammy awards with a career total of 18 nominations.
