Stephen King is known as one of the most prodigious writers of horror stories in the world, and so it has come as a welcome to many fans of this genre, that a remake of Carrie is headed for the big screen once again. After a lengthy search to find the right person to play the titular role first made famous by Oscar winner Sissy Spacek. Who will be the new Carrie?

Although Stephen King suggested Lindsay Lohan play the role a while back, MGM Studios has decided on Chloe Moretz to play the teenager with psychic abilities. Beating out other actresses like Lohan and Dakota Fanning, Moretz is set to headline her very first film. In talks to play the mother of Carrie (made famous by Piper Laurie) are Hollywood heavyweights Jodie Foster and Julianne Moore.

Carrie made Sissy Spacek a star over thirty-five years ago. Will it have the same effect on Chloe Moretz? The original movie also starred then relatively newcomers John Travolta, Amy Irving, Betty Buckley and William Katt. Spacek and Laurie received Oscar nominations for their work in the original film.  The new version will be helmed by Kimberly Peirce of Boys Don’t Cry fame. Shooting begins later this year.
